LYNNWOOD, Wash. —

A Lynnwood pet owner is going to jail for letting her dog run free.

Deborah Linnell held back tears inside a Lynnwood courtroom when the judge showed no leniency and sentenced her to three days behind bars.

Animal control officers cited her five times for violating the city's leash law.

Three citations within a year is a criminal offense.

"I don't think its fair but that's the law," Linnell said.

Twice before, the same judge gave her suspended jail sentences.

Linnell has already performed some community service and paid fines for her dog Dakota's freedom.

Her jail time begins April 15.
