Pharmacy Manager Accused Of Stealing Drugs

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

A local Fred Meyer pharmacy manager had her license suspended Thursday amid allegations she stole $52,000 worth of drugs, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The Washington State Department of Health said Deneice Gurrad allegedly stole thousands of doses of Ambien and Vicodin, both controlled substances, and passed them to another person. The department said the theft occurred between May 2005 and December 2006.

The narcotics turned up missing at the Tumwater Fred Meyer after a routine audit by the company.

Company officials installed surveillance cameras and said they caught the pharmacy manager in the act.

Fred Meyer fired Gurrad. The Thurston County prosecutor’s office is investigating.

Gurrad has 20 days to respond to the health department charges.
