Pilot Dead After Plane Flown From Bellingham Crashes In B.C.

SEATTLE —

Crews found the body of a pilot amid the wreckage of a plane that crashed in British Columbia after leaving Bellingham on Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The pilot was the only one on board the plane that was bound for Ketchikan, Alaska, said Mike Fergus of the FAA.

The plane, a Cessna 195, was found 32 miles northwest of Campbell River, British Columbia, on Thursday, he said.

The plane was due to land in Ketchikan at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Bellingham Herald reported. Search teams began looking along the coastline of Vancouver Island, between Campbell River and Port Hardy, about an hour after the plane was due to land, the Herald said.

The plane was registered to a company in Delaware.

The identity of the pilot has not been released.
