SEATTLE —
Two teen girls were taken into custody after they knocked a woman down and stole her purse in South Seattle, police said.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. Monday at the Mount Baker Light Rail Station in the 3000 block of Rainier Avenue South.
According to police, officers responded to a call of a strong-armed robbery in the location. The call indicated that two girls, wearing black jackets, knocked down a woman and took her purse.
When an officer found the woman, she told him that she stepped off the bus, heard someone behind her, turned around and two girls pushed her to the ground.
Police said one of the girls punched her multiple times in the face while the other took her purse.
The two girls then fled the scene northbound.
The woman suffered a cut on her lip, redness around her eye and several scrapes on her knee.
After the woman gave the officer a more detailed description of the two girls, he dispatched other officers.
Police saw the two girls in the 2300 block of Rainier Avenue South, and the victim positively identified them.
One of the girls had the victim’s driver’s license and credit cards.
Police took the two girls into custody.
Both 16-year-old girls were later booked into the Youth Services Center for investigation of robbery.
