SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. —

A young man is dead after a police chase ended in a crash in Snohomish County.

An 18-year-old Granite Falls driver died after his car crashed into a tree shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, police said.

Police said a sheriff's deputy saw a driver speeding on Westwick Road east of Highway 2. The deputy tried to pull the driver over, but he didn't stop.

Police said the deputy began a chase of the vehicle. The car ran off the road and hit a tree in the 7700 block of 171st Avenue SE.

The driver was transported to the hospital where he later died.
