Police Detonate Suspicious Package At Steilacoom Ferry Dock

STEILACOOM —

Bomb experts detonated a suspicious package at the Steilacoom ferry dock Monday morning.

The state Department of Corrections on McNeil Island, which uses the dock for its ferry, says no explosives were detonated. The package was found to contain tobacco wrapped in plastic and electrical tape.

The dock also has Pierce County ferry service to Anderson and Ketron Island. McNeil Island Corrections Center houses about 13-hundred male inmates. The island is in Puget Sound, a few miles west of Steilacoom.
