SEATTLE —

A Muslim rights organization said an email threat was made to a Puget Sound-area mosque.

The Washington state branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said the person who sent the email was identified immediately because the threat was sent from a personal email account, but no arrest has been made in the case.

CAIR-WA said there was no search conducted at the suspect’s home to look for evidence.

The organization reported the incident to the FBI.

Ayn Dietrich with the Seattle branch of the FBI said agents are working with a local police department to investigate the threat.

According to CAIR-WA, members of the local Muslim community said they fear for their safety and stopped going to the threatened mosque.

Because of fear, no mosque official has been is willing to speak publicly, but asked CAIR-WA to highlight the case, the organization said.

The group said it did not have permission from mosque officials to announce the name, location or other information about the mosque.
