Police: Huge Theft Ring Busted In Pacific

PACIFIC, Wash. —

Police were digging through storage units Monday, uncovering a bonanza of loot from what they believed to be a major theft ring, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Bonanza Of Stolen Goods Found In Storage Units

Officers from the 7-person Pacific Police Department were asking for help in processing evidence from six storage units, where goods worth up to $100,000 were found.

Items seized included riding lawn mowers, boat engines and electronics, many things still in their original packages.

"We have three commercial clothes driers, like in a Laundromat. [It] looks like they were stolen in shipment in 1997," said Jim Pickett, a Pacific police detective.

Police discovered the goods Friday with the report of a burglary at A-1 Mini storage.

They found units unlocked and, with some quick checking, realized the items inside were stolen.

"Some things were stolen from homes and businesses that were in use. Sometimes it was truck shipments intercepted. They've broken into cargo trucks and stolen the contents of the trucks," Pickett said.

Police tell us they've identified a couple of suspects linked to these storage units, but have made no arrests.

Pacific Police also called in the Department of Ecology.

The Spill Response Team was handling combustible and corrosive materials found in the storage units, including propane tanks, gas, paint, batteries and cleaning solvents.
