EVERETT, Wash. —

Detectives are investigating new allegations of a youth basketball coach and youth group volunteer accused of raping a 12-year-old boy.

During Andrew Kortegard’s arraignment Friday, detectives revealed that they were investigating new other possible victims after a couple of referrals came in following media coverage of Kortegard.

“Since this initially hit the media, there have been a couple of referrals to the sheriff’s department. They are actively investigating that now. I’ve not seen the paperwork on that, but I know that there have been at least three additional people that have come forward,” Craig Matheson, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor, said.

Officials with the Boys and Girls Club of Snohomish County said Kortegard, 31 who was arrested on Monday in connection with a sexual assault on a 12-year-old boy, volunteered for the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club as a coach for three or four years.

Officials at the club told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that Kortegard passed a mandatory background check. They said he met the alleged victim through a female acquaintance and not through the club.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said deputies alerted the Boys and Girls Club after the arrest.

According to court documents, the alleged 12-year-old victim fell asleep in the living room on Sunday night.

"In the morning, the suspect asked him to get into bed with him. After a couple of minutes (the suspect) pulled down his underwear and tried to have sex with him. The victim pretended to sleep," according to the documents prepared by the prosecutor's office.

A neighbor said he often saw young children going in and out of Kortegard's apartment, where he said he kept toys in his bedroom.

Koretegard on Friday plead not guilty and is being held on $200,000 bail.
