Police Looking For Beer Belly Bandit



BELLEVUE, Wash. —

Police are looking for a scam artist they call the beer belly bandit.

Paul Miller Steve, a 43-year-old Tacoma man, is missing after fleeing the courtroom Monday afternoon.

Steve was arrested Sept. 22 and released after his family posted bail. Steve was scheduled to appear in court Monday, when he arrived he learned that a second warrant for $250,000 had been issued for his arrest for a DUI.

Upon learning of the warrant, Steve fled the courtroom.

Police believe Steve targets the elderly in a variety of scams and frauds throughout the western United States.

Stever recently approached a Bellevue senior citizen at his home and requested assistance in securing enough cash to retrieve his car from a local auto dealership shop.

The victim supplied Steve with $4500, with the promise form Steve that a like amount would be transferred back into the victim's account.

Police said they have recently became aware of two other elderly victims one in Lynwood and another in Federal Way and believe there are many others.

Anybody with information on crimes committed by Paul Steve or know of his location are asked to call Detective Greg Bean at the Bellevue Police Department at 425-452-7820, 911 or anonymous calls can be directed to Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-CRIME-13.
