SEATTLE —

A man fell from a balcony in the University District Friday night, police said.

The incident happened after 11:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast.

According to police, officers and fire department medics responded to the location for a report of a man falling from a balcony.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the man was trying to get around people on a crowded balcony by partially climbing the railing, police said.

The man was walking on the lower portion of the railing when he lost his footing and fell about two and a half stories, landing on the street between two parked cars.

Police said there was no indication of foul play.
