A 23-year-old man wearing a Cookie Monster hat was arrested for drug possession early Thursday morning, police said.

According to the Seattle Police Department, anonymous tips led to the man’s arrest.

West Precinct officers were in the area of 172 South Washington Street near Club Volume.

At 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer received information from a tipster of a known drug dealer that was in the area, and the officer was told that the dealer, “sells ecstasy that’s cut with something bad and he’s right over there.”

According to police, the club caters to the 18-plus and there are rave crowds on Wednesday evenings. Also, underage drinking has been a problem in the area for the past few months.

The officer asked the tipster if he knew the name of the dealer, and said that he did a provided the name to the officer.

After a checking, a name was located and matched a person that was active with the Department of Corrections.

The tipster then pulled out his phone to show the officer a picture of the dealer on his Facebook profile.

Police said the Department of Corrections photo and Facebook profile picture matched.

The tipster then told the officer the dealer was wearing a Cookie Monster hat, which he almost always wear and was in the dealer’s Facebook photo.

After the officer contacted a Department of Correction officer, a check on the dealer was done.

The Department of Corrections officer told the officer the dealer under active supervision and in violation of his conditions, so the Department of Corrections officer requested for the dealer to be arrested.

Officers started looking for the dealer and searched Club Volume.

Around 12:30 a.m., an officer found the dealer wearing his Cookie Monster hat and he turned northbound into an alley to the west of the club.

Officers got to the dealer and took him into custody without incident.

After a search, police found several capsules and baggies of loose powder from the suspect’s pants pocket. 

Later, police determined that the suspect was in possession of 59 capsules of ecstasy, one large capsule of THC, $97 in cash and 7.7 grams of MDMA, alongside LSD, cannabis and heroin. They were all placed into evidence.

The dealer was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of violation of the uniform control substance act-possession with intent.
