SEATTLE —

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department found human remains in a plastic bag Saturday morning near the Ship Canal Bridge.

Police responded to the 3100 block of Fairview Avenue East  around 10:30 a.m. after receiving a call from a homeless advocate who had been in the area and found the plastic bags stuffed with what appeared to be a decomposing human leg bone.

The remains were found in a wooded area that the advocate told police is a known spot where the homeless congregate.

Police say the remains are human but the county Medical Examiner will have to determine that in testing.
