Bothell police said a security officer fired shots at a teenage driver outside the regional Food and Drug Administration building in Bothell.

Police said two security officers approached a car with a suspicious person inside at the Pacific Regional Laboratory Northwest office at 22201 23rd Dr. SE around 7 a.m. Friday.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, the person fled on foot then returned a short time later and got into a vehicle parked at the facility.

As security officers approached the vehicle, the driver backed out and the vehicle struck one of the officers.

Police said a guard fired at least one shot at the driver of the car, a 15-year-old boy.  The teenager then fled the scene and drove through a grassy area.  Police said he struck another vehicle, left the crash scene and continued home.

Bothell police went to the residence and found the teenager with a gunshot wound in the foot and minor facial wounds.

Police took the teenager into custody and transported him to Evergreen Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  

The hospital released the teenager and he is currently being detained for questioning.

The security guard who fired the shots is also being interviewed by authorities.

The building was locked down after the incident but the lockdown has since been lifted.

Video from Chopper 7 showed a car being towed from the scene and muddy tire tracks on a grassy area.

The shooting occurred about a block away from the Secondary Academy for Success, a school in the Northshore district.

The Snohomish County Multi-Agency Response Team will be leading the investigation in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security.

The incident remains under investigation.
