Police Seek Hockey Mask-Wearing Attempted Bank Robber

SPANAWAY, Wash. —

Detectives need the public’s help to identify an armed man who was wearing a hockey mask when he attempted to rob a Spanaway bank.

The man tried to follow a bank employee from the parking lot in through the bank doors of the America’s Credit Union located in the 17000 block of Pacific Avenue South in Spanaway on Friday at about 8:15 a.m.

Security doors locked behind the employee before the man could get inside. Police said he waved a handgun and shouted at the employee to open the bank doors, but the employee refused and ran to the back of the bank and called 911. The man fled the scene.

Police said the man was wearing a white hockey mask, gloves and a green hooded sweatshirt. He was carrying a backpack and armed with a handgun.

Anyone with information can anonymously call Crime Stoppers of Pierce County at 253-591-5959 and receive up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the man’s arrest and charges filed against him.
