SEATTLE —

A 63-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in South Seattle on Tuesday, Seattle police said in a blog post on Thursday.

According to the post, the woman was walking home from a bus stop in the 1700 block of South Angeline Street when a man came up from behind her, covered her mouth and punched her in the face repeatedly. The man then threw the woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The woman fought off the man, who eventually fled with the woman's purse.

Police searched the area where the assault took place, but did not find the man.

The woman was treated at Harborview Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The man was described by police as Hispanic and in his 30s or 40s, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall with a brown complexion and a medium build. He was clean shaven and was wearing beige or light-colored jacket and a beige-colored hat at the time of the attack.

Police said it is unknown if the attack is related to any of the other recent attacks on women in Seattle, but said a connection is possible. (See a map of the recent attacks below.)
