Sean Whitcomb of the Seattle Police Department said an officer was a customer inside the bank when a teller told him that a man inside the bank was trying to rob it.

The officer approached the man and told him to stop and show his hands, police said. The man disregarded the commands and walked away toward the exit.

Outside the bank at 5th Avenue and Cherry Street was a taxicab that had its passenger-side rear door open with a woman and the cab driver inside.

The man got in the cab as the officer from inside the bank approached the vehicle. The would-be bank robber threatened the cab driver to drive away or he would be hurt. The driver got out of the taxi and ran away.

With the carfs engine still running, the man got out of the backseat and into the driverfs seat, but he was unable to get the car into drive right away.

The man eventually got out of the car and ran away carrying a dirty pink backpack.

As the woman was still sitting in the backseat of the taxi, she didnft comply with commands from the officer to put her hands up.

SWAT officers then fired a gless-lethal projectileh through the rear window of the taxi. She surrendered and was taken into custody for questioning.

Police are still looking for the attempted bank robber. He is described as a black male, 6Œ2 to 6Œ4, 250 lbs, 35 to 40 years of age, wearing all black clothing and carrying a dirty pink backpack.

Nobody was injured during the course of the incident.

Chopper 7 over the scene showed the cab surrounded by police tape.
