SEATTLE —

The Seattle Police Department released a sketch Monday of a man they said posed as an undercover cop and sexually assaulted a woman Friday night in the Greenwood area.

Police said the incident happened at 11:32 p.m. when the woman was walking and a man approached her on the sidewalk on North 93rd Street and Stone Avenue North. The man identified himself as a plain-clothed police officer working a sting in the area. Then he asked for her identification.

The woman started to walk away and the man confronted her again and displayed a badge, police said. Detectives said the man pushed the woman into a bushy area and sexually assaulted her. After the man attacked the woman, he fled the scene in an unknown direction.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande spoke with Sean Scott, a resident who lived in the area, and he did not hear about the incident.

“It’s terrible, it’s discomforting living on this street,” said Scott. “I’d love to see him caught tomorrow, locked up, taken care of. Obviously, what he did is terrible.”

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment where she was interviewed by sexual assault unit detectives.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man, 5-feet 9-inches tall, 30 to 40 years old, clean-cut, with short dark curly hair, a stocky build and no accent.

Anyone with information about the incident, may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is urged to call 911 or the Seattle Police Sexual Assault Unit at 206-684-5575. Anonymous tips are welcome.
