Pregnant Teacher Accused Of Sex With Student Wants Reduced Sentence

TACOMA, Wash. —

Rebekah Todd, a 25-year-old teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her students, asked a judge to reduce her sentence after learning she was pregnant.

According to Todd, the student she is accused of having a relationship with is not the father of her unborn child, her husband is.

“I made errors in judgment and I take responsibility for them,” Todd said about her relationship with a 17-year-old student.

Todd had been working at White River High School in Buckley before her conviction of attempted second-degree assault in exchange for the dismissal of two counts of sexual misconduct with minor.

Todd, who recently learned she was pregnant, asked a Pierce County judge to set her free from her sentence.

“I realize now that my situation was different, and by not creating firmer boundaries with my students, they viewed me as something other than just their teacher,” Todd told the judge.

Judge Bryan Chushcoff rejected Todd’s argument that her pregnancy was reason to set her free, saying Todd failed to understand that what she did was wrong.

“The evaluation of her suggested, and I don’t want to make this sound too simple, because it is not simple, was that she just didn’t get it,” Judge Chushcoff said.
