TACOMA, Wash. —

A public memorial for a woman who was killed by a bullet fired out of a car window was held Wednesday night in Tacoma.

Police said Lisa Melancon was killed as she stood on her porch last Thursday after angry text messaging between teens escalated into a fight.

Police said the shots were fired from a car occupied by three men as they drove away from the fight scene.

The three men were charged on Monday with first-degree murder in Melancon’s death. Prosecutors said the decision for first-degree charges stemmed from their “extreme indifference to life” when the shots were fired.

One man, 19-year-old Manuel Castillo, was arrested and booked into the Pierce County Jail Saturday after turning himself into police. His bail was set at $1 million.

Nationwide arrest warrants have been issued for two other men, Olujimi Blakeney and Herman Jackson, who remain at large. Both have criminal records.

Court documents identified Blakeney as the shooter.

Hundreds attended the memorial held at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall.

The 40-year-old victim worked for the City of Tacoma’s Code Enforcement Division of Public Works.

Melancon worked for the city for 15 years and played a key role in community-based services.

She is survived by her husband and her 19-year-old son.
