Puyallup Neighborhood Evacuated by Bomb Scare

PUYALLUP, Wash —

Bomb teams defused and detonated at least two potentially explosive devices found after a traffic stop on a Puyallup street.

Officers had pulled over the vehicle at Meridian and 31st Avenue after receiving tips the car was being driven by armed gang members.

Inside, officers found three suspects and recovered several weapons, then discovered something they never expected to find.

Lorri Ericson with the Puyallup Police Departments said, "One of the people who came out had in his posession what appeared to be an explosive device." Police say a suspicious package was found in the car's trunk.

Because of the potential danger officers evacuated a nearby 7-11 and a daycare. Parents were called to pick up their children.

A bomb squad robot removed a device found in the trunk of the car and it was destroyed.

The three suspects in the car were jailed. They face several charges.
