Recall Effort Launched Against Pierce Assessor

TACOMA, Wash. —

A Puyallup resident has filed the papers to begin a recall campaign against the Pierce County assessor-treasurer.

The News-Tribune of Tacoma reported the documents to recall Dale Washam were filed Friday with the county auditor.

Robin Farris accuses Washam of mismanaging his office and said it's time for him to answer to the voters.

Washam did not respond to requests for comment Friday. He is quite familiar with the recall process. Between 1994 and 2005, he tried and failed five times to recall opponents who defeated him in elections.

Farris, who recently retired from the Navy, said she has never met Washam, and does not know any employees at the assessor-treasurers office.

She contends Washams actions violate the law by wasting money and how he treated his staff, the newspaper reported.
