Report: No DNA Matches For Foot Found On Whidbey Island

ISLAND COUNTY, Washington —

A human foot that was found on the east side of Whidbey Island in August does not match any DNA in the national DNA database, according to a report released Tuesday.

The DNA comparison included a request to cross-reference DNA from Kara Lynn Radabah, who disappeared near Illahee State Park last May, and Shantina Smiley, who disappeared last March while driving with her son from Silverdale. Smiley's minivan was later found in Puget Sound and her son's body was discovered on a beach.

Island County sent a copy of DNA from the foot to British Columbia to be cross-checked with their DNA database, but due to the condition of the foot, no comparison was possible, the county said in a news release. (British Columbia's DNA database scans for a different type of DNA.)

The county said that DNA samples from the foot will be compared to new samples in the national DNA database, which is continually updated.
