TACOMA, Wash. —
A report of a student with a gun prompted a lockdown at all schools in the Tacoma School District.
Police were called to Stewart middle school after a student reported seeing a classmate who had gun in a backpack on his way to school.
Detectives took the student into custody. Police said the student told them he had issues with one or more fellow students at the school.
The boy told police he had thrown the gun away on his way to school.
Detectives are searching for the weapon but it has not yet been recovered.
Tacoma schools spokesman Stacey Flores said the schools were on a modified lockdown until shortly after 1 p.m.
