Reward Increased For Missing McCleary Girl

MCCLEARY, Wash. —

The reward for a girl missing from McCleary, Lindsey Baum, has doubled as police plan to restart their investigation.

With no sign of Baum for seven months, McCleary police announced Wednesday that reward posters with the new amount of $20,000 will be put up and new investigators will be brought in to look at the case.

Action for new investigators came after police met with a reviewing agency who looked over their investigation and offered feedback. Police also said they plan to start over again with the help of the FBI and will re-interview those who they’ve already spoken to.

Liz and Ted Fusselman live right along the path where Baum, 11, disappeared and they said they’re ready to open their home to FBI investigators again and answer some of the same questions they were asked last June.

“Like they opened all the closet doors and looked in any cracks or anything, they looked in the backyard," Liz said.

Not only will people be re-interviewed, but investigators are warning McCleary residents that more searches are coming.

“There's going to be a significant increase in activity in and around McCleary," said Grays Harbor County Undersheriff Rick Scott.

The FBI is also bringing in their child abduction rapid deployment team, a group of experts from around the country with a reputation for solving mysteries like this one.

"The child abduction rapid deployment teams have a pretty good track record, both recovery and finding victims alive. And of course that's what we're looking for here,” said special FBI agent Ron Twerski.

Baum hasn't been seen since June 26 when she disappeared while walking home from a friend's house.

Two people spotted the then 10-year-old along the way, but she never made it home and investigators have found no evidence that could explain her disappearance.

“We recognize that we're going to be talking to a lot of the same people, yet again, and asking them the same questions, yet again, and it's going to appear somewhat monotonous, but there's a reason for it, and we just ask for their cooperation," Scott said.

Lindsey's mom said seeing investigators look at the case with fresh eyes gives the family new hope that someday their non-stop worry will end.

“She's missed Christmas, her birthday, she's missed Thanksgiving,” Melissa Baum said. “It's hard to stand here and watch the entire world keep going on, because our lives aren't moving. We're just frozen in time waiting for her to come home."

Lindsey's family has two Web sites with information: http://lindseybaum.com/ and http://findlindseybaum.com/.

Lindsey is 4 feet 9 inches tall, 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a light blue hooded pullover shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about Lindsey’s disappearance is asked to call the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office at 1-866-915-8299 or send an e-mail to soadmin@co.grays-harbor.wa.us.
