Reward Offered In Storage Unit Arson Case

SEATTLE —

A massive fire that tore through a storage unit complex in White Center Thursday was intentionally set, fire officials say, and police are now searching for a suspect.

A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that would help convict the arsonist.

Fire Rips Through Storage Unit Complex

The fire started inside one of the units of the Shurgard Storage complex early Thursday morning.

Fifteen of the building's units were heavily damaged. The remaining storage units have smoke and water damage.

The loss is estimated at about $2 million.

People lost personal possessions. For some, it was all they had.

Barbara Liberace arrived just after the fire broke out to find that her storage unit was one of the ones that were destroyed.

The fire ate up much of what she had saved from a house fire just one year ago.

"My furniture, my household goods, our tools and everything, just everything [is gone]," she told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The fire was a stubborn one to fight. The roof, which firefighters were finally able to pull off by Thursday afternoon time, did quite a job of concealing the fire within.

By then, fire investigators were finally able to check out burn patterns from above and determine the fire was no accident.

The $10,000 award is offered by the Arson Alarm Foundation through the Washington Insurance Council. Call 1-800-55-ARSON.
