Sacramento Kings fans are reacting to the news of the selling and potential moving of the city’s NBA team.

On Wednesday, a tweet broke out starting rumors that the Sacramento Kings were sold.

A lot of information was unconfirmed, and the potential deal shocked Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who is a former NBA player.

“So today, is a significant day for our community because it’s the first time it appears the Sacramento Kings are for sale,” said Johnson a news conference.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Gary Horcher spoke with fans who said they were angry at the owners, the Maloof brothers, because they felt the Maloof brothers were committed to keeping the team in Sacramento.

“I don’t feel too bad about it. I feel like the Maloofs are second-rate owners. It’s been a long time coming that they lose their franchise,” said Kings fan Jason Burns.

Fans were not convinced.

“There’s so much that you can go through with a team before you’re just ready to give them up and just go your separate ways,” said Kings fan Shaun Jordan.

“I think they’re gone. I don’t think Sacramento really wants them around anymore because we’ve been going back and forth for so long. I think it’s time to cut ties,” said another fan, Clay Harris.

“I think it’s a done deal. Unfortunately, I think that as a city, we just couldn’t not afford to keep them here,” said fan Mickie Hernandez.

KIRO 7 learned that Johnson is looking for new owners to buy the team, but it could take weeks for an offer to materialize.
