FERNDALE, Wash. —

About 300 teachers remained on strike in the Ferndale school district Friday, with no school planned for Monday.

A Ferndale School District news release said it was hoped that an agreement between the District and teachers will be reached this weekend.

If an agreement is met, Monday would be considered a teacher workday and the first day of school would be Tuesday.

The teachers union said they are striking over more planning time, but school officials say that would require hiring additional teachers at a cost of about $400,000 a year.

Wednesday was to be the first day of school in Ferndale.

The District said for updates, call the district hotline at 360-383-9888. Daily updates and all call phone messages to parents will be placed between the hours of 12:00-6:00 p.m.
