SEA-TAC AIRPORT, Wash. —

A partial evacuation of Sea-Tac Airport was caused by a battery charger smoking inside a bag near gate A-3.

An employee-only area of Sea-Tac airport was evacuated after firefighters received a report of a smoking bag in a baggage handling room.

Airport spokesman Perry Cooper said the bomb squad destroyed the bag shortly after 7 a.m. The owner of the bag was located and the smoking item was determined to be some sort of battery charger, Cooper said.

Grande said a baggage handler was loading a bag and heard a "pop" and then saw smoke.

Passengers and other people from Concourse A were evacuated to other parts of the airport.

Betancourt said the incident delayed two American and two Delta flights.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness reporter Alison Grande said because of the evacuation, baggage could not transferred from the main terminal to some scheduled flights, causing baggage to stack up inside the terminal.
