Search Continues For Missing State Official

HOODSPORT, Wash. —

Rescue teams, including a helicopter, are set to resume the search for a missing state official Wednesday morning, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

The effort to find 47-year-old Gilbert Gilman is focused on Olympic National Park's Staircase campground area near Hoodsport.

Gilman is the deputy director and policy chief for the Washington Department of Retirement Systems.

A dog handler arrived at the campground with his bloodhound Wednesday. Park rangers managed to get inside Gilman’s car and retrieve a pair of pants that might give the bloodhound a scent to go on, because when Gilman arrived at the Olympic National Park Saturday, he didn’t tell anyone where he was headed.

A Thurston county detective is also showing Gilman’s picture to campers, hoping someone has seen him. Police said they believe he probably went out for a day hike and got into trouble.

The search was launched after a co-worker reported Gilman missing Sunday, when he failed to show up for a business trip to Spokane.
