Seattle entrepreneurs relieved New iPad is the same size

SEATTLE —

Two Seattle entrepreneurs were relieved today to find that Apple’s New iPad will retain the familiar iPad dimensions, despite some rumors that it wouldn’t.

Steve Isaac and Brad Melmon are the men behind Touch Fire, an analog keyboard for the iPad. The Touch Fire is a stretchy silicone keyboard that fits over the iPad and allows for a more tactile typing experience.

If the New iPad had been sized differently, the $50 Touch Fire would be rendered nearly worthless. The New iPad is thicker and heavier, but it has the same height and width dimensions.

“Thickness doesn’t matter to us; just the overall shape,” Melmon said.

Isaac said he and Melmon dodged a bullet, unlike those who make protective cases for the previous iterations of the iPad and now must retool for the newer, slightly bulkier version.

“We’re good to go,” Isaac said. “I mean, people who make cases, they’re gonna have to do a little work.”
