Seattle Fire Department Fighting Huge Warehouse Fire In South Seattle

Related

SEATTLE —

There was one worker in the Capital Industries

warehouse that caught fire in South Seattle Sunday -- and he called

9-1-1 and got out safely.

Fire department spokeswoman Helen Kirkpatrick says the

50-thousand-square-foot warehouse is part of Capital Industries'

three-square-block metal-fabricating operation. Only the warehouse

was on fire. Heavy, dark smoke billowing from the scene was being

blown north by prevailing winds.

The three-alarm fire was fought defensively from the start. Says

Kirkpatrick -- quote -- "We never went inside. There was just too

much smoke and fire."

More than 100 personnel -- including fire crews, medics and

support units -- were at the scene. Fitzpatrick says there'll be a

Fire Department presence at the scene at least until tomorrow

morning -- standard procedure in a big fire.
