Seattle Officer Attacked After Chase, Crash Into House

SEATTLE, Wash. —

A Seattle police officer was taken to a hospital after being assaulted by a man following a car chase in north Seattle early Wednesday.

Police said the officer tried to pull the driver over, but he took off and a chase began just after midnight. During the chase the man crashed an Isuzu Trooper into a house near 90th Street and Meridian Avenue.

Greg Roberts was asleep just feet from the wall when the SUV came crashing in. He and another resident were not hurt.

Following the crash, the man fled. Police said the officer pursued the man who then assaulted her and tried to take away her gun, but he was unsuccessful.

Police said the officer continued to chase the man but lost sight of him. A search of the surrounding area failed to locate the man.

Later Wednesday, Seattle police focused the search in the Madrona neighborhood after receiving a call that the man may be in the area. A KIRO 7 Eyewitness News crew saw police searching the grounds of a church at about 4 a.m.

That search also failed to find the man.

The officer was treated at the scene by medics and then transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Detectives told Roberts and another tenant of the home, Chris Dawson-Ripley, more details about the suspect.

"Just that he'd been busted for DUI two days ago and that I think he fled to Capitol Hill, went to talk to some friends, told them what he did. They called the cops and he took off again," Dawson-Ripley said.

"I would just like to say to whoever did this, you're the worst criminal I have ever seen in my entire life. I mean, I'm just really disappointed in your criminal ability," Roberts said.

Police are continuing the search for the suspect.
