Seattle Ranks In Top 10 For Auto Theft



SEATTLE —

The Seattle area has one of the worst rates of auto theft in the U.S., according to a report prepared by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

The report ranked the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area sixth and Yakima ninth in auto theft rates.

The Northwest Insurance Council said 44,563 vehicles were reported stolen in Washington last year, an 11 percent drop from 2005. The group said auth theft is up 51 percent since 1995 and costs $75 billion each year nationally.

Here is a Top 10 list of Washington cities and theft rates:

The theft rate is based on the number of thefts per 100,000 inhabitants using 2005 U.S. Census Population estimates.
