WHATCOM COUNTY, Washington —

A sea plane sank after landing on Lake Whatcom on Friday afternoon, just hours after another small plane landed on Interstate 5 in Bellingham after it experienced engine trouble.

"This can't be x2 in 1 day," Bellingham Fire Chief Bill Boyd tweeted. But it was.

According to officials, two Anacortes men were inside the plane.

Four high school students on a small boat heard the men yelling, and helped tow their plane to the beach.

“They nose-dived, and the plane submarined into the water and it flooded,” said one of the teens, Justin Pennell, who helped the two men.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane in the latter mishap was a SeaRey.
