SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash —

Travelers driving over the Cascade passes were hit with more than a foot of new snow in places as a winter storm warning remained in effect through Friday evening.

Interstate 90 was a slushy mess after snow turned to rain, leaving standing water in some spots.

David Wheeler, driving over the pass to Ellensburg, said the roads weren't as bad as he thought they'd be.

"I've driven the road a lot when you go, 'Oh my goodness, do I really want to do this?'" he said.

The winter storm warning -- forecasting a snow level dropping to 1,500 feet late Friday night -- calls for another 4 to 8 inches of snow possible through the afternoon and into the evening.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Stacy Sakamoto said she saw a long line of snowplows clearing the snow and slush.  The Department of Transportation said there were more than a dozen plows on the roads.

Drivers said they hoped the slush is gone by the time temperatures drop, so it doesn't freeze.
