SEATTLE —
Several people are recovering after a shooting that led to a chain-reaction crash, causing the closure of Interstate 5 near Boeing Field on Sunday.
The sister of the 20-year-old shooting victim told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that he was targeted because of his past gang affiliation.
She said it all began when the gunmen saw her brother looking for parking at a Filipino festival at Seward Park. Police said there was an exchange of glances.
She said her brother drove onto I-5 to try to lose the gunmen.
"So he was going 70, 80, 90, trying to lose them, and they still caught up to him," she said.
Diane Selvy and Destiny Carson told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News they saw the vehicles flying by.
"They're seriously going over lanes … not turning on turn signals. People are having to slam on their brakes go over to the other side. It was super scary," Carson said.
The victim's car collided with a Kia, flipping it over. The two females inside, who had no role in the altercation, were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Police said another innocent motorist was struck in the crash, and two cars were damaged by the gunfire.
The collision forced state troopers to close all southbound lanes of I-5, backing up traffic for miles.
The gunmen fled.
