A Spanaway man is in critical condition after he was beaten in a road rage attack.

Pierce County detectives said Scott Bradford was beaten Monday at 175^th and A streets.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter David Ham spoke with Bradford’s father, Jerry Bradford, who welled up thinking about his son’s pain.

“Excuse me, but it is really hard. It looks fatal,” said Jerry Bradford.

Scott Bradford’s cheeks are fractured, and his nose and jaw are broken.

Jerry Bradford said a man was following aggressively behind Scott Bradford so he braked abruptly to get him to stop.

When he parked, a man in a dark green or gray sedan followed him and started punching him.

Mike Howard was driving by and stopped to help by slashing the attacker’s tires. He is also a Vietnam veteran, who uses two prosthetic legs.

“Landmine took both of my legs. What happened to Mr. Bradford was not his choice,” said Howard. “He said, ‘Whatever I did, I’m sorry.’ And he got punched. I pulled my knife out and I was going to deflate it, and he kicked me in the face.”

Howard said the attacker was a black man in his 20s, wearing a green and brown fleece coat.

Not only is the Bradford family pleading for help, but Howard is offering up his own cash for the cause.

“There’s the five brand-new $100 bills. All it takes is a phone call. Number’s 911,” Howard said.

Scott Bradford is at Tacoma General Hospital and is schedule to go into surgery Thursday.

Doctors are hoping to fix the broken bones in his face from the attack.

In addition to the reward, Crimestoppers is offering $1,000 leading to an arrest of the attacker.
