UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. —
One person was transported to the hospital after a speeding car slammed into a house and burst into flames early Thursday morning in University Place.
Pierce County Sheriffs Office spokesman Ed Troyer told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the accident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Day Island Boulevard West in University Place when a newer-model BMW left the roadway at a high rate of speed and crashed into the front of a house and caught fire.

Troyer told KIRO it was a miracle the three military men in the car were not killed in the crash early Thursday.
Following the crash, the driver fled and was later taken into custody by a K-9 unit on the beach near the crash site.
One passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
KIRO 7 reporter Rick Price spoke to one of the residents of the home who said the homeowner suffered minor injuries while helping to put out the fire and kept it from spreading beyond the car.
A tow truck and crew had to lift the car out of the front yard and cut the dangling engine off in order to remove the BMW, which was a mangled wreck.
Troyer said the driver of the car was not hurt, and the other two men in the car suffered minor injuries.
