State Fines Trident For '07 Spill In Tacoma

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The state has fined Trident Seafoods $12,000 for an oil spill last summer in Tacoma's Hylebos Waterway.

The Washington Department of Ecology said the spill on July 10, 2007, happened when the Trident tender vessel Bowfin was refueling and the chief engineer opened valves for two fuel tanks that were already full.

The tanks overflowed, and about 90 gallons of diesel oil ran over the side of the ship and into the water.
