SHORELINE, Wash. —
The Washington State Department of Transportation slowly reopened state highways across the region Saturday after this week’s snow and ice storm.
After the snow and ice melted, slush and trees were remnants of the storm. According to the WSDOT, crews spent the night removing sand, slush, tree branches and other debris from storm drains.
"Drivers are anxious to have things back to normal and we are working to make that happen," said Dave McCormick, regional maintenance manager for the WSDOT.
On Friday, State Route 900, SR 410, parts of SR 18 and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge reopened.
On Saturday, all lanes on SR 18 were full restored and SR 202 should reopen in the evening.
Crews from Bellingham, Mount Vernon and Everett went to the hardest hit areas to help with the clearing process.
"Hundreds of trees fell," said McCormick. "It's the worst we've seen in the last several years."
