State Sets Tolls For New Tacoma Narrows Bridge

TACOMA, Wash. —

The state Transportation Commission has adopted a plan for tolls on the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge, when it opens this summer.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Dubois said the toll for cars equipped with transponders will be $1.75. Drivers paying cash will pay $3 when crossing from Gig Harbor to Tacoma.

Washington State Patrol troopers will be exempt at all times. Other emergency vehicles will not have to pay if they are responding to an emergency.

Officials had discussed the idea of having ambulances, police cars and fire trucks pay tolls when crossing the new bridge.
