Student Stabbed In Robbery At Edmonds Community College

LYNNWOOD, Washington —

An Edmonds Community College student was stabbed on the school's campus Tuesday morning and the attacker apparently escaped.

The victim, a 22-year-old Lynnwood man, was in Alderwood Hall at the school when a man approached him and stabbed him in the face at about 9:30 a.m., the Lynnwood Police Department said. The victim also told police he was also sprayed with pepper spray. The attacker stole money from the man and fled. The victim started yelling for help and the attacker ran off.

"My whole body was shaking," said Rachel Adolf, a student who was working nearby when the stabbing happened. "His hand was over his head and he said somebody robbed him and it was bleeding."

The school wasn't locked down, since the attacker apparently ran away from the school. The school is located in Lynnwood, despite its name.

Police said they closed off the area for a time and searched for the attacker with a K-9 unit but didn't find him. They told KIRO 7 the search for the man was eventually called off.

"He made a fuss and some people came out, saw him and the suspect ran off away from campus," said Shannon Sessions with Lynnwood police.

Police described the attacker as a thin-build black man with short or shaved hair. Police said he was wearing a black jacket, a black backpack and a blue-and-white plaid shirt.

Edmonds Patch reported that the victim was taken to Swedish Edmonds Hospital. KIRO 7 Reporter Lee Stoll said the man didn't suffer life threatening injuries.

Some classes were canceled after the stabbing, but officials said the school is not closed.

Students said that the stabbing was unusual on the normally quiet campus.

"I expect something like this to happen in Seattle or maybe Everett but not really here," Adolf said.

Marissa Wiley said she usually feels safe on campus, but that she wouldn't walk alone until the man was caught.

"If they haven't found the guy it's kind of scary," she said.
