Study Finds Wide Variations In Internet Connection Speeds

SEATTLE —

New research shows that all neighborhoods are not created equal when it comes to how fast your Internet connection is.

The Communication Workers union rated the speed of Internet connections at various Western Washington spots.

A county-by-county breakdown, shows a median download speed of more than 6 megabits per second in Skagit County.

That's almost double the speed in Thurston County, according to the study.

In downtown Seattle, bandwidth was below the national average of 2 megabits per second.

It's nearly double that around Microsoft headquarters in Redmond.

And it's 10 megabits per second on Mercer Island.
