Substation Fire Causes Brief Power Outages

RENTON, Wash. —

A fire at a Renton substation caused brief power outages and power fluctuations were reported across the Puget Sound Friday morning.

Firefighters tell KIRO 7 Eyewitness News a power pole snapped and caught fire knocking out the Talbot Hill Substation around 1:30 a.m. People in the area reported power outages lasting about 15 minutes.

Puget Sound Energy said there was a “system-wide blip” that lasted about 30 seconds. Callers from Gig Harbor to Arlington told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News they experienced very brief outages or power fluctuations that lasted less than one minute.

PSE says the fluctuation affected 17,000 customers in South King County alone.
