SEATTLE —

The suspect in a Beacon Hill double homicide was taken into police custody in northern California Monday morning, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Seattle police said 28-year-old Jennifer Morgan and her 13-week-old daughter, Emma, were shot to death on Dec. 22 by Morgan's boyfriend, 29-year-old Daniel Thomas Hicks.

A report from the Medical Examiner's Office said Morgan was shot at least 12 times and Hicks' and Morgan's daughter was shot at least seven times.

Police said a tip that resulted in a phone trace led officers to an industrial area in Santa Cruz.

Police cordoned off the street and alerted nearby businesses to shelter for the duration of the contact with and arrest of Hicks.

Santa Cruz authorities said Hicks was cooperative while he was taken into custody at gunpoint.

According to a Santa Cruz police news release, Hicks told officers he knew why he was being arrested and that he was “a bad person."

King County Prosecutor's Office court documents said Hicks' half-sister told police Hicks wanted his girlfriend to get an abortion and Hicks claimed that his girlfriend was trying to trap him with her pregnancy.

Prosecutors filed two counts of first-degree aggravated murder against Hicks on Thursday.

Hicks will be extradited to Seattle once detectives arrive to escort him.

Hicks' vehicle found abandoned in Weed, Calif., was searched for evidence, police said.
