Suspect On Roof Pelts Officers With Sign Letters, Glass

EVERETT, Wash. —

Police said a man broke into a used car lot in Everett pelted officers with plastic sign letters and debris while on the roof of a building Monday.

Shortly before 9 p.m., police said they received 911 calls about a man who kicked in the door at Import Auto Sales at 3200 Rucker Ave.

Police said when officers arrived, they saw a man on the roof of the building. Officers said the lock on the front gate had been smashed and multiple car doors were open in the car lot.

When the man saw police, he began screaming obscenities, threatened to jump off the roof and pulled down power and cable lines from an adjacent house, a police report said.

The report said the man then started pulling sections of an electric plastic lettered sign off the building, and threw them at officers along with broken glass. He cursed at police and said statements such as, “I’m gonna get you,” police documents said.

Police said two officers were nearly struck with the letter “O,” which was thrown from the roof but were able to duck in time to avoid being hit.

Another officer received a small cut on his hand from flying debris.

Officers said the man eventually climbed off the roof on a ladder and was taken into custody for investigation of assault, burglary and criminal mischief.

Police said there was $2,500 damage done to the building, sign, gate, wires and cables.
