Suspect Serial Arsonist Caught On Tape

MARYSVILLE, Wash. —

Hidden surveillance cameras were rolling when a suspected North Sound serial arsonist set a fire, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Authorities say cameras show Earl Jimmy Smith, Jr., heading to the scene of an arson.

Then minutes later, Smith is seen running back into his apartment.

Suspect Seen Before Fire Erupts

Sixteen suspicious fires happened within a year of Smith moving to one Marysville neighborhood.

"It was not just like once in a a while and they were right across the street from us regularly," said Jake Boersema, a neighbor.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to three charges of arson.

Prosecutors said Smith's wife was also caught on the tape.

She has not been charged with any crimes.
