TACOMA, Wash. —
A Tacoma-based animal rescue group is back from Texas after saving dogs from a foreclosed animal shelter.
K9 North West returned this week with 27 neglected and abused German Shepherds. The dogs were slated to be euthanized unless someone was willing to adopt them.
Organizers packed up a trailer and drove 600 miles nonstop to rescue the dogs.
Some of the canines are in rough shape, but organizers say they hope to have all of the dogs healthy enough so that they can be adopted.
"They need a little bit of T.L.C. and a little bit of work, and that's our main goal right now -- to get them cleaned up so they can be up in foster homes and adopted," said Melissa Lingk of K9 North West.
