A Tacoma police officer fired at a man who dragged him with his car for nearly a block after a traffic stop Monday night.

Tacoma police said the incident started around 9:45 p.m. when an officer attempted to pull over a domestic violence suspect near South 82nd Street and East F Street.

As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the suspect grabbed the officer and began to drive off.

While the officer was being dragged, he was able to break free and get to his weapon. He fired several shots at the suspect but the suspect drove off.

It is unknown if the suspect was struck by any of the bullets but police are checking all area hospitals to see if anyone matching the suspect's description comes into the emergency room.

There is no suspect description at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call Tacoma police.

The officer is on paid administrative leave, which is routine after an officer-involved shooting.
